IMPORTANT PROGRAM CHANGES
June 2024 Update
From June 7th 2024, the transition to College-Led training will be complete with the now delivering training across North West Queensland. All RACGP related training enquires should be directed to qld.trainingsupport@racgp.org.au. You will also be able to find your training coordinator and medical educator details by logging into the RACGP TMS from Monday, 10 June.
We are incredibly grateful for everyone who has worked with us over our eight-year journey of delivering general practice training in northern Queensland. To the supervisors, practice managers, registrars and cultural mentors who have been involved and provided feedback – thank you! To our partners and the strategic leadership group who helped steer the course for GP training in regional, rural and remote Queensland – we greatly value your time and efforts. To our senior fellows, practice support advisor and registrar liaison officers who supported registrars, supervisors and practices, we are also grateful!
Our biggest thanks go to our medical educators and administrative staff over the eight years. The passion and dedication demonstrated in supporting registrars to fellowship has been beyond expectations. It has been a privilege to have such a great team of inspiring people. Your values in action helped to foster and grow a medical workforce that is fit-for-purpose to support regional, rural and remote communities.
JCU is continuing to produce job-ready and passionate graduate doctors who will strengthen the regional, rural and remote medical workforce. JCU has an esteemed track record of graduating people who undertake a general practice or rural generalist career, which remains the highest proportion in Australia. We remain committed to this important work . For registrars, we wish you the best in the rest of your training. For supervisors and placement sites, we will have ongoing relationships through our medical students and are eager to continue to support you. For our staff, thank you. May 2024 Update
Update for ACRRM Registrar, Supervisors and Training Posts.
The realignment between ºì¶¹ÊÓƵ and for delivery of the Australian General Practice Training program occurred on May 1st and is now complete.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank ACRRM for the support throughout our involvement in registrar training. The relationship between our organisations started well before JCU became involved in registrar training and will continue through our shared goal of building a passion for practicing medicine across regional, rural and remote Australia.
As we return our focus to supporting students and junior doctors, our mission of providing training with adventure, skills and impact is more important than ever and we look forward to inspiring the next generation of rural generalists.

February 2024 Update
JCU is in the process of concluding involvement in the delivery of General Practice (GP) registrar training under sub-contracting arrangements with the and the .
Following the national transition to College-led training over the past 12 months, we have been supporting progress towards nationally consistent training programs. The shift to a College-led delivery model makes ongoing funding of JCU’s training less secure. Our decision has been made now to allow us to provide timely information and advice to our staff and stakeholders, allowing for an orderly transition to the new approach.
Since 2016, JCU has been directly delivering GP training and has proudly produced over 900 GP Fellows of both Colleges who are now serving northern and regional Queensland and beyond. We are committed to remaining closely involved in supporting students, junior doctors and other medical officers to take up general practice and rural generalist careers and strengthen primary care.
